The Swiss Center for Rescue, Emergency and Disaster Medicine (SCRED) is a platform for strengthening research and advanced education in this medical field and for the successful medical management of major incidents and catastrophes.<\/span><\/p>\n

For a number of years, medical studies at the University of Basel have systematically offered a defined \u201cemergency medicine curriculum\u201c to deliver the basic principles of rescue, emergency and disaster medicine. This curriculum provides an understanding of symptom-oriented access to critically ill patients and lays the foundation for the efficient initial care of patients with potentially life-threatening illnesses or injuries.\u00a0More ><\/a><\/p>\n

Consistency in the use of terms\/concepts and knowledge of their definitions is vital for good and effective cooperation and is a prerequisite for the successful management of major events.

Most medical emergency situations occurring everyday life develop in the prehospital setting. To establish compre\u00adhensive quality control and outcome research, we rely on the documentation of pre\u00adclinical characteristics, the availability of detection standards and the association between these characteristics.<\/p>\n

This registry is developed in conjunction with the Coordinated Medical Services (KSD) of the Swiss Federal Government, the Swiss Society for Emergency Medicine (SGNOR), the Interassociation for Rescue Services (IVR), and associated partners. More ><\/a><\/p>\n

Issues of care efficiency, the effect of prehospital intervention on the outcome, and the development of quality assurance data are central to the scientific interest of the SCRED. The Center promotes national and international networking in this area of research. For this purpose, the SCRED develops workarounds and provides tools, which promote efficient collaboration.<\/p>\n

Together with interested partner organizations, the SCRED as a platform aims to provide rescue, emergency, and disaster medicine with scientific legitimation.<\/p>\n
